Creative Movement- This is the perfect class for your young
dancer. Students will use
gross motor and listening skills, while improving balance, flexibility,
and coordination through a variety of fun upbeat songs. Students will learn about dance through a short story
time and will receive a memorable souvenir at the end of the week. This class is great for first time dancers
or returning students.
Intro. to Jazz/HipHop-
This class focuses on traditional beginning jazz & hiphop technique. Students will participate in a daily
warm-up to modern, kid appropriate, hiphop music. They will be taught hiphop floor progressions and turns along
with a super fun, high energy, choreographed dance that will be performed
in the studio for parents on the last day. Every student will make a keepsake, dance craft to keep as
a souvenir of their summer dance experience.
Jazz/HipHop Technique- This class is perfect for intermediate
and beginner dancers. While beginners will get a taste for the essentials
of jazz and hiphop, intermediate students will have the opportunity to
brush up on important dance technique. This
class will enhance balance, flexibility, turns and spotting, performance
technique, and much more through a variety of combinations that can be
tailored to meet each dancers needs. Dancers
will learn a professional choreographed dance that will be performed in
the studio for parents on the last day. Every student will make a keepsake, dance craft to keep as
a souvenir of their summer dance experience.
Modern I: This class will explore the beginning technique
of modern dance through warm-ups, exercises, and combinations borrowed from
various modern styles. The class will learn how to be in touch with their
bodies and weight by learning how to contract, fall, and use the floor in their
dancing. We will learn about improvisation and creative movement by using the
imagination, and we will investigate some beginning partnering with the other
dancers in class. Look forward to an energetic, creative approach to this
unique style of dance!
Modern II: An extension of the repertoire covered in Modern
I, this class for older dancers will build on modern dance fundamentals &
styles. We will learn about the powerful Horton/Ailey technique, soften into
breath & gravity through release technique, and find the lyrical upper body
in Limon technique to cover a wide range of movement and dynamics. The class
will explore partnering in duets and groups, dance improvisation, and beginning
choreography. The group will meld their own improvisations and partnering with
the movement learned in class to create a short modern dance piece.
